As the first company globally having commercialized direct air capture (DAC) technology, As the first company globally having commercialized direct air capture (DAC) technology, Climeworks aims to lead the way in becoming the first Net Zero carbon removal company. As we scale rapidly to achieve gigaton capacity by 2050, we remain committed to minimizing our own footprint. Our biggest emission drivers have been our Research & Development activities together with Project Development and Travel.
Already today, our commercial operating plants operate on a zero-emission basis, selling net carbon removal credits (plant grey emission subtracted from all CO2 removed through plant operation). Learn more about our monitoring, reporting and verification standard we apply.
Our emission reduction key measures
Technological efficiency
Our R&D activities focus on increasing our technology’s overall efficiency, lower resource consumption in terms of energy use and higher removal capacity.
Renewable energy
We maintain a 100% renewable energy target for all our Direct Air Capture plants and office buildings.
Supply chain
We are engaging with our tier one, tier two where critical, and possible tier three suppliers to reduce our overall supply chain emissions.
Travel & commute
Our travel emissions will remain high in the near term during this scale-up phase, but will be steadily driven down through travel policies and hiring locally.
Internal carbon budget
We have consistently factored carbon pricing into our plant investment decisions.
