Ready to join a team of visionaries who is dedicated to solving one of humankind’s greatest challenges?

Get to know Climeworks

Climeworks removes CO₂ from the air to fight global warming and protect future generations to come.

We develop, build and operate direct air capture (DAC) machines which capture CO₂ directly from the air. The captured carbon dioxide is removed from the air by safely storing it underground, permanently.

Founded in 2009 by engineers, Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher, Climeworks was built with a mission to inspire 1 billion people to remove CO₂ from the air, and is now spearheading the DAC industry globally. It has the world’s largest DAC facility and storage installation in operation and a team of over 450 Climeworkers determined to contribute to a net-zero future.

A true climate pioneer, Climeworks is featured as a TIME100 Influential Company 2022 and Global Cleantech 100 Company 2022, driving a revolutionary technology engineered to solve the most pressing issue of our time.

We foster a dynamic environment and are building a global purpose driven team. We are looking for disruptive thinkers, passionate achievers and inspiring leaders that are ready to take on the world’s greatest challenge.

Your mission

Job description
  • Your mission at Climeworks is to work cross-functionally and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team with expertise in adsorption process development, testing, process engineering, product design and plant design. Your goal is to understand the energy flows of Climeworks’ current and future DAC systems, identify energy savings potential and drive implementation of identified energy saving measures.
  • You act as an interface between the R&D and Operations teams, helping drive mutual understanding of the complexities involved in scaling up technology to industrial scale.
  • If required, you lead targeted measurement campaigns at different operational scales to test new energy reduction solutions and confirm their potential.
  • You contribute to the development and validation of Climeworks’ energy models and heat & mass balances.
  • You work closely with plant operation teams to monitor, quantify and report on energy consumption and efficiency of Climeworks’ currently operating DAC facilities.
  • You identify, develop and implement energy reduction projects on currently operating DAC facilities, including optimization of process parameters, equipment upgrades, and deployment of new technologies.
  • You develop and document field and design learnings that can be incorporated into the next generation of DAC facilities.
  • You mentor and train junior members of the team, as well as facilitate trainings on energy topics for other departments of the company.
  • You generate new ideas and concepts to improve Climeworks’ IP portfolio. You stay abreast of new relevant technological developments in the field of DAC and provide competitive assessments.

Your story

Requirements
  • You hold a university degree at B.Sc. or M.Sc. level in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • You bring advanced knowledge in process engineering, thermodynamics and separation processes – experience with non-steady state process is a plus.
  • You have at least 5 years of industrial experience in a similar role – including energy efficiency and process optimization positions. Proven track record of developing and implementing energy reduction projects in industrial settings is a big plus.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed energy analysis and identify improvement opportunities.
  • You have experience in the development, tracking and reporting of KPIs or other similar indicators of plant performance.
  • You have a strong understanding of heat & mass balances, P&IDs, and other process documentation.
  • You are proficient in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, UniSim Design, PRO/II, etc.) and data analysis tools.
  • You take ownership of your projects, prefer detail-oriented work, and thrive working in an interdisciplinary team. You are fluent in English. German is beneficial but not required.
