• Laboratory Characterization & Testing: You conduct routine isotherm measurements, including sample preparation. You support lab stakeholders by performing a broad range of material characterization analyses, such as porosity measurements (mercury porosimetry, N₂ physisorption), elemental analysis, titrations, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic vapor sorption (DVS), ensuring accurate and high-quality data. 

• Method Development & Continuous Improvement: You develop, refine, and implement advanced analytical methods and new measurement technologies to meet evolving research needs. You actively support stakeholders working on sorbent and structured sorbent materials by contributing innovative and reliable experimental approaches. 

• Instrumentation: You maintain, calibrate, validate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments. You ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation including maintenance and calibration logs, validation reports, SOPs, and lessons learned. 

• Lab Operations & Compliance: You support general lab operations including inventory management, gas and waste handling, supply ordering, as well as lab organization, cleaning, and HSE walkthroughs. You ensure compliance with safety regulations and laboratory protocols, with knowledge of relevant regulatory standards (such as SUVA requirements) considered a plus. 

• Data Management & Analysis: You manage and organize laboratory data, including recording, cleaning, and basic analysis. You apply introductory coding skills (e.g., Python) to support simple data processing tasks. 

• Data Visualization & Optimization: You design and implement interactive dashboards and reports (e.g., Power BI) to visualize laboratory performance, KPIs, and experimental data. Advanced coding or scripting skills to further optimize and scale data workflows are considered a plus. 

• Internal campaigns & storytelling: You contribute to internal campaigns related to values and culture, helping turn complex topics into accessible and engaging communication. 

• Employee communications: You help draft and coordinate employee announcements with stakeholders across the company.  

• Internal formats: You support the planning, coordination, and technical set-up of company-wide formats and employee engagement initiatives – from learning sessions to socials. 

• Insights & continuous improvement: You track channel reach and employee understanding, identify gaps, and help improve communication effectiveness over time.

Reporting to the VP Communications & Branding, this role leads the development of Climeworks’ corporate narrative and strategic messaging, ensuring a clear, consistent and compelling story across executive communications, thought leadership, corporate channels and major reporting outputs, including the Annual Report, Sustainability Report and quarterly investor reporting.

Working at the intersection of communications, strategy and business performance, the role partners closely with teams across Finance, Commercial, Operations, and Technology to translate complex information into clear, credible and compelling communications.

This is a senior, writing-led role for someone who combines outstanding editorial skills with strong business judgment and the ability to work effectively with senior leaders across the organization.

Corporate narrative and messaging

• Own and evolve Climeworks’ corporate narrative, positioning, messaging framework and supporting proof points.

• Develop messaging for key strategic priorities, market developments, partnerships, company milestones and corporate issues.

• Ensure consistency and clarity across how Climeworks communicates its business, strategy, progress and impact.

Corporate reporting

• Lead the development and delivery of Climeworks’ Annual Report, Sustainability Report and quarterly investor reporting.

• Own the narrative, editorial structure, messaging and drafting of these reports, ensuring they tell a clear and coherent story of company performance and progress.

• Partner with the various units and senior leadership teams to gather inputs and translate them into high-quality reporting content.

• Manage reporting timelines, content development and stakeholder review processes from planning through to publication.

Executive communications and thought leadership

Support the VP Communications & Branding in developing high-impact executive communications, including speeches, op-eds, articles, LinkedIn content.

• Lab Characterization: You are part of an integrated team performing lab-based characterizations, including CO2 adsorption behavior and chemical stability and support the laboratory team with their day-to-day activity including reaction preparation and work-up.

• Material Processing: You support the team in activities related to material processing, including milling and drying, as well as the associated analytics such as PSD and resistivity.

• Independent Analysis: You work independently on tasks to understand properties of sorbent materials and support the team in improving analytical methods.

• Validation & Reporting: You validate, troubleshoot, and clearly document your work to communicate effectively with stakeholders across Climeworks and support larger project goals.

• Instrument Calibration & Validation: You calibrate analytical equipment and perform instrument validations in line with recommended schedules, ensuring reliable and reproducible data. 

• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: You support troubleshooting activities and carry out routine maintenance of analytical instruments to ensure smooth lab operations. 

• Laboratory Operations & Improvements: You maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace and actively contribute to implementing improvements in laboratory workflows and practices. 

• Documentation & SOPs: You maintain accurate laboratory documentation, including SOPs, shutdown procedures, error logs, and other records related to laboratory activities. 

• Equipment Installation & Modifications: You assist with the installation of new equipment and the modification of existing lab instrumentation. 

• Policies & Procedures: You contribute to creating and updating laboratory policies and procedures related to daily operations. 

• Health, Safety & Environment (EH&S): You support EH&S responsibilities by conducting workplace risk assessments, creating and updating safety documentation, supporting audits, and contributing to the development of safety training. 

• IP and Inventor Enablement: You enable the management of IP topics by guiding inventors and ensuring readiness for future projects.

• Technology and Product Landscape Monitoring: You continuously monitor Climeworks’ product innovations and the evolving technology landscape.

• Inventor and Expert Interface: You serve as the essential bridge between inventors and innovation protection experts, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration.

• Patent Portfolio and Scientific Analysis: You dive deep into Climeworks’ patent portfolio and relevant scientific literature to provide strong technical insights.

• Core Technology Ownership: You own core technology domains with a focus on patent filing and ongoing maintenance.

• Continuous Improvement: You refine and streamline Climeworks’ innovation mining and protection approaches, ensuring the company remains an industry leader.

• Cold-weather and constructability: As our next DAC plant is planned for Alberta, Canada, you incorporate Alberta (or similar) climate conditions into mechanical design and execution planning (freeze protection, winterization, insulation/heat tracing philosophy, drainage/low-point management, cold start/commissioning constraints). You ensure the design is constructable and able to operate and be maintained  through winter conditions, including consideration of temporary works, winter work sequencing, and interface constraints with cold-weather civil activities.

• Contractor management: You review and approve contractor submissions, enforce owner requirements, provide technical clarifications, and ensure adherence to schedule, quality, safety, and operability. You set clear expectations for execution methods, field quality controls, and turnover documentation needed for safe operation and maintenance.

• Innovation and cost optimization: You develop innovative engineering solutions to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety. You focus on design-to-construct decisions appropriate for local boundary conditions (e.g., modularization readiness, reduced field welds, optimized layout, local climactic conditions, access and maintenance).

• Interface management: You assure strong integration with process, civil, electrical, and O&M disciplines to achieve seamless and optimized designs. You proactively manage cross-discipline interfaces.

• Regulatory and stakeholder awareness: Where relevant, you support alignment of mechanical scope assumptions with local permitting and application needs for energy/industrial facilities and infrastructure interfaces.

• Documentation and knowledge management: You maintain thorough records of technical decisions, design bases, vendor information, and lessons learned for future operational use, including pressure equipment records and lifecycle documentation expectations.

• Quality Control Execution: You plan and coordinate QC campaigns for sorbents and related materials, and you oversee measurements to meet workload and timelines. You review and approve QC data within defined QC specifications and testing standards and maintain inspection‑ready documentation and records in SAP QM and linked systems. 

• Quality Assurance Ownership: You manage deviations and change controls arising from QC activities and QC‑owned processes, ensuring accurate root‑cause analysis with preventive actions. You are responsible for method validation activities, ensuring accuracy and timely execution, and you prepare/support audits on QC topics, including supplier‑related evidence and follow‑ups. 

• QC Process Improvement & Risk Management: You identify bottlenecks across QC processes and documentation as well as data handling, release workflows and handoffs, apply risk‑based thinking to propose and implement lean improvements that reduce rework, cycle time and compliance risk, and contribute to the implementation and maintenance of LIMS and SAP QM. 

• Interfaces & Collaboration: You act as the QC technical interface to suppliers and manufacturers, support Procurement with commercial and contractual topics, and support the Product Owner on applications and operations discussions while aligning timelines and QC deliverables with plant requirements. 

• Decision Rights: You decide on QC record content quality and investigation strategy to ensure compliance with SOPs and QC standards. You recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and risk mitigations to approvers, as well as QC metrics and reporting routines aligned with the Product Owner and Operations, and escalate issues that could affect product quality, compliance, or delivery timing to the line manager. 

• Prototyping: You prototype and test your concepts and sub-systems, taking a hands-on approach from early proof of concept to final acceptance testing. You design and execute experiments to validate concepts, troubleshoot issues, and optimize designs. 

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: You work closely with our in-house sorbent and process experts, as well as system engineers, to align material and process properties with mechanical implementation. By developing a deep understanding of sorbent and process performance, you invent new ways of implementing them into collectors. You contribute to the scale-up from lab to pilot to industrial scale, balancing performance, reliability, and CAPEX. In addition, you collaborate with the Industrialization team on detailed engineering, manufacturing, compliance, and scaling, creating a strong feedback loop that ensures innovative concepts evolve into robust, market-ready equipment. 

• Stakeholder & Project Management: You keep stakeholders aligned by documenting designs, insights, and lessons learned, ensuring transparency and continuity throughout the project lifecycle.

• Intellectual Property: You keep a close eye on the industry's state of the art and actively contribute to generating new intellectual property.
